Saves and new phones

Where is my progress saved?

On your phone. The game saves automatically as you play. There are no accounts and no cloud saves of our own, so your tribe lives on that phone, plus Android's own backup if you have it turned on.

I'm getting a new phone. How do I keep my progress?

There are two ways, and you can use both. Android backup: make sure backup is turned on for your Google account (usually Settings › Google › Backup, or Settings › System › Backup), and let the old phone back up before you switch. When you set up the new phone with the same Google account and restore from that backup, or copy your data straight from the old phone, your tribe comes back with it. Save code: on the old phone open Settings › Save code and copy the code (send it to yourself in a note or email). On the new phone, open Settings › Load a save code and paste it. Then tap Restore purchases in the Shop or in Settings.

Will uninstalling delete my progress?

Yes: uninstalling, clearing the game's storage, or using Settings › Delete local data deletes the save from your phone. If Android backup was on, reinstalling on the same Google account may bring it back. A Save code you copied earlier also works. We can't recover a save that was deleted from your phone, because we don't keep a copy.

Purchases

How do I get my purchases back after reinstalling or on a new phone?

Open the game with the same Google account you bought with, then tap Restore purchases in the Shop or in Settings. One-time purchases such as No Ads, the Builder's Permit and the Warm Welcome Pack come back. Frost Gems you bought are added to your save when you buy them, so they come back with your save (see "new phone" above), not through Restore purchases.

I paid but didn't get my item.

Some payment methods take a while: the game says it is waiting for payment and adds the item as soon as Google Play confirms it. Make sure you're online, reopen the game, and tap Restore purchases. Still missing? Email us with your order number (it starts with "GPA.") and we'll sort it out.

Does the Frost Card or Winter Pass renew by itself?

No. The Frost Card (30 days) and the Winter Pass (one season) are one-time purchases. You are never charged again unless you choose to buy again.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds go through Google Play. Shortly after a purchase you can usually request one yourself from your Google Play order history: see Google Play's refund help. Otherwise, email us with your order number and we'll help. Items from a refunded purchase may be removed from the game.

Summoning, ads and privacy

What are the odds when I summon heroes?

They are shown in the game: tap Odds on the Summon screen, or open Settings › Odds & Help. You'll see the chance of every rarity and every hero, the pity counters (which guarantee a Legendary after a certain number of summons) and your own next-summon odds.

How do ads work in Hearthfrost?

Bonus videos are always your choice: tap a button with the video icon to watch one for the reward it shows. A short ad may appear after some campaign victories, never during a fight, never in your first minutes of play, and never right after another ad. The No Ads purchase removes the ads, and the bonus rewards can then be claimed without a video.

It says "No video available right now".

Bonus videos need an internet connection, and sometimes there simply isn't an ad ready: try again in a minute. If you said no to ads in the privacy message, fewer ads may be available. You can review that choice under Settings › Privacy options.

How do I change my ad choices?

In the game, open Settings › Privacy options (it's also under More › Privacy), shown where privacy laws give you a choice. On any Android phone you can also reset or delete your advertising ID under Settings › Google › Ads or Settings › Privacy › Ads. See our Privacy Policy for details.

How do I delete my data?

We don't keep your game data: it's on your phone. Use Settings › Delete local data, or uninstall the game, or clear its storage in Android Settings › Apps › Hearthfrost › Storage. To remove it from your Google account backup, delete the device backup in your Google account. If you have emailed us and want those emails deleted, write to privacy@sidequest-labs.com.

Playing

I don't want reminders (or I'm not getting any).

Turn them on or off with Reminders in the game's Settings. Android also has its own switch under Android Settings › Apps › Hearthfrost › Notifications. On Android 13 and newer the game has to be allowed to send notifications first.

My phone gets warm, or the game feels slow.

Turn on Reduce motion in Settings for fewer particles and animations, and close other apps. Make sure Android System WebView and Chrome are up to date in the Google Play Store, because the game runs on top of them. If it's still slow, email us your phone model and we'll take a look.

The game asks me to update Android System WebView.

Hearthfrost needs a recent Android System WebView, a part of Android that Google updates through the Play Store. Open the Play Store, search for "Android System WebView" (on some phones Chrome plays this role, so update Chrome too), tap Update, then open the game again.

Which phones does it run on?

Android 7.0 or newer, phones and tablets, in portrait. It works fully offline. Bonus videos, purchases and restoring purchases need an internet connection.

I lost a battle. Did I lose anything?

In the campaign, no: losing never costs you anything. You keep everything, get stronger by upgrading your heroes and buildings, and try again. In the Arena a loss can lower your league points, but you still keep all your heroes and items.
